Jonathan Pain: The new political and economic reality
Legendary economist Jonathan Pain shared his insights into ‘the new economic and political reality’ at Matthews Steer’s Private Wealth event on May 24.
Jonathan Pain shared his thoughts on recent political developments including Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron’s elections, Brexit, and the rise of populist nationalism. He flagged hopeful indications of world reflation and even inflation, asserting that: “the global economy is on a stronger footing than in recent history”. And, having predicted Donald Trump would win the Presidential election at our Private Wealth event last year, Pain explained why the accuracy of his prediction shouldn’t have come as a surprise.
Blue Sky Chief Investment Officer, Alex McNabb followed Pain onto the stage, turning the spotlight onto alternative investment opportunities. McNabb explained that investment in alternatives is a growing trend to the point where the terminology ‘alternatives’ has become a misnomer as they become mainstream. He looked at the reasons why alternatives can represent smart investments, and outlined some of the alternatives Blue Sky invests in.
We’ll be sharing more insights from Pain and McNabb’s presentations in the coming days.
Matthews Steer’s Head of Private Wealth, Anthony Flapper, rounded off the evening with a reminder to clients that, with June 30 rapidly approaching, now is the time to get their end of financial year planning under way. To find out how you will be effected by the new super regulations, click here to take our 60-second Super X-ray survey. Flapper advised clients to prepare for the soon-to-be implemented super reforms, to check their insurance policies and ensure they, and their families are protected by them, and pointed out that it's a great time to check the interest rates on debt to ensure you are getting a competitive deal.
Held at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Matthews Steer’s annual private wealth event attracted more than 100 clients this year, providing a valuable networking opportunity in addition to the expert insights shared by Pain and McNabb.
