Local talent the key to success at Matthews Steer
Matthews Steer, announced the promotions of Stephen Wooster to Partner, and Charith Mandadige to Associate in July, increasing the firm’s executive team to eight.
A Chartered Accountant with an MBA, Stephen Wooster has worked at Matthews Steer for 10 years.
“Stephen is a valuable member of our team,” said Managing Partner, Ken Matthews. “He heads up our Business Advisory division and his turnaround work has been invaluable to our clients. Stephen has a great relationship with his clients and is always happy to go the extra mile for them.”
Stephen says he finds satisfaction in the turn-around work he spearheads for Matthews Steer clients. “The work we are doing in the turn-around space has had a big impact on the people behind the businesses we act for,” he said. “To be able to help business owners navigate their way through the tough times which can come their way in business, especially given the current climate, is incredibly fulfilling.”
Originally from Mill Park, Stephen says Matthews Steer’s collaborative and encouraging approach to workplace culture has “let me set my focus on providing solutions to clients to help protect and grow their businesses. “It is about being able to have a wider impact on businesses and business owners so that I can continue to do the things I love,” he said.
Charith Mandadige grew up in Lalor and, after succeeding academically at university, sought a position in a firm where he can make a difference. Charith turned down employment opportunities at the ‘Big Four’ to join the Matthews Steer team. “It is the Matthews Steer approach to dealing with clients that attracted me initially,” said Charith, “we practice what we preach.”
Working directly with people and their businesses and providing opportunities for his clients to achieve their potential motivates Charith. “We put ourselves in our client’s shoes and would not advise anyone to make a decision – or do something – we would not do ourselves,” he said.
“With us for nearly five years, Charith has a great client rapport, is a valued team member and holds the highest technical standards,” said Ken.
Currently managing a team of accountants within Business Services and tax advisory division of the firm, Charith has a special interest in start-up businesses and regards his promotion as an opportunity to make an even bigger impact on his clients’ businesses.
Founded on family and community values, Matthews Steer is focused on building relationships and investing in its clients and staff. The firm has evolved from a one-man practice to the current team of more than 45 staff and the appointments of Stephen and Charith are an integral part of the firm’s succession planning strategy.
“Matthews Steer is a community-focused practice with a track record of growth and innovation within Melbourne’s North West,” said Ken. “We have a reputation for employing young local talent and investing in their training, leadership skills and career pathways, and we support and encourage every member of our team to achieve their potential,” he said.
